My guest, writer-director, Michael Patrick King, has a pretty interesting sense of audience.

And his years on working on this series as executive producer of Sex and the City, he must have understood that he was pitching the show to a different experience.

That is people watching it in the intimacy of their homes.

The motion picture, which he wrote and directed Sex and the City, is a very different experience.

It's really a communal experience.

First of all, Michael, thanks so much for being here.

Oh, it's my pleasure, Elvis.

And just watching the movie, it feels more like a play to me.

It's interesting because it's an odd combination because there is a given

take with an audience.

That's what I wanted to have happen.

Yet it's not like a play in that it's

incredibly intimate and inside and the camera's close and it's not presentational at all.

But what it has is, when I've seen it with the audience a couple of times now, there is a,

there's a rhythm between the audience and the

movie. And I always wanted to write a movie that had laughs, because that's what everybody's

expecting, but also a great deal of tears, because that's what I'm interested in, the combination

of laugh and tears. So for me, the fun is to go to the movie and hear people sniffling and then to see

how quickly they are ready to laugh. They will jump on a laugh as soon as the door. All I have to do is

crack the door open and they'll run in in the couple of experiences that I've had so far.
