| 0:00.0 | Welcome to the WDW News Today podcast. My name is Eric Morton with me today, Tom Corliss and Mr. Paul Osterhavre. Former Disney Imaginary, you may have seen, you've definitely seen a lot of his work. And we're going to chat with Paul today and do a lot of our normal stuff, but it's an honor to have you here, Paul. Well, thanks for inviting me. It's really fun to be here. And it's always great to come to your guy's office and I'll see all the cool stuff that you have on the walls. And it's something different every time I come here. So it's really |
| 0:40.4 | kind of cool. Between me and Jason and Josh, there's always different stuff to look at. Was there |
| 0:47.1 | something in particular today that caught your eye? Yeah, I think it was the eyeworks. It looked like an old lighting fixture. It looked like there was some kind of moving gobo and a light fixture thing. I couldn't tell exactly what it was, but that's what it looked like to me. It's apparently, because 20,000 leagues under the Sea of Magic Kingdom, there was an indoor portion. You're still in the water the whole time. But there was an indoor portion where they wanted it to look like light was hitting the water. And so that's, yeah. Yeah, that's what it looked like. Yeah. And so, well, we get to it eventually. I'll talk to you, I'll talk to you a little bit about my 20,000 leagues experience. Oh. Well, we tried to, we tried to save it so many times. So anyway, I don't think I've heard |
| 1:29.7 | this story. That's exciting. We might have to wait for weird snack time. No, no, we got to make |
| 1:34.9 | people wait. Paul has agreed to participate in our nonsense, including voices of literacy and weird |
| 1:42.1 | snack time. Which one are we going to first today? |
| 1:46.1 | We'll kick it off with weird snack time. Paul, do you want to eat first or answer questions? |
| 1:47.7 | I'll just answer questions in case it sticks to my teeth |
| 1:49.9 | and I can't talk anymore. |
| 1:51.8 | Then you can tell, oh, Eric. |
| 1:56.1 | Man down. |
| 1:58.1 | So it feels like it's a 20,000 leagues episode. |
| 2:51.6 | So there's water coming at. Paul just has tissues with him. There we go. Do you want me to grab something real? Yeah, we might have to pause this. All right, we cleaned up Eric's spill. So now, now Eric. Through the magic of Hollywood editing. Yes. You didn't have to watch us. Clean it up. Oh, God. Ladies and gentlemen, I present the Voices of Literacy. If you want to send us questions, you send them to Eric M at www.com. There are a lot of questions in the mailbag right now. We're going to try to knock about three of them out right now. The first one is from Gunner. Gunner says, hello Eric and Tom, big fan of the podcast, really enjoying the segment of the show. The topic I wanted to bring up for discussion was your perspective on Michael Eisner and his time as CEO of Disney. Being born in the early 90s, I'm not old enough to have great firsthand perspective of his tenure, but for my understanding, he was very unpopular amongst fans near the end. What I find interesting, however, |
| 2:56.5 | is that it seems now many fans hold him in high regard and look back on his time with fondness |
| 3:01.6 | and mostly positive feelings. My theory is that in large part, this comes from nostalgia, |
| 3:06.6 | and people simply miss that 80s |
| 3:09.0 | and 90s era. |
| 3:10.0 | It could also be that even though things got rough at the end, people appreciate the |
| 3:13.6 | ambition he had throughout his time in charge and what seemed like a genuine interest and |
| 3:18.2 | passion for theme parks in particular. |
| 3:20.3 | I'd be curious to get your thoughts and perspective on this and if you think Disney will ever have another CEO like him, who, for lack of a better description, likes to play Walt and be more front and center to the fans and happenings in parks. P.S. Lifelong Cairns and former resident of Lawrence, I appreciate your occasional references to our state. Rock Chalk. Yep, Lawrence. That's me. Born and Leavenworth, raised in Lawrence. Thank you, Gunner. So let's talk a little bit about Michael Eisner, |
| 3:44.2 | and I think how fortuitous that we have Paul here, who was an imaginary. Someone who knew him |
