Last week was one of those split screen weeks in our politics with two massive stories playing

out on the world stage concurrently and in parallel. On one screen, the war in Ukraine,

descending into a deeper and more dismaying miasma of cruelty, brutality, and misery on the

orders of Vladimir Putin, as televised images and accounts of Russia's depravity in Bukka were

enough to induce feelings of both outrage and nausea among any morally censate person who saw or

heard them and caused Ukrainian President Zelensky to declare that Putin had done more than

commit war crimes but was guilty of pursuing a policy of quote genocide. On the other screen,

the vastly more uplifting and inspiring picture of Judge Katanjee Brown Jackson being confirmed by

the United States Senate 53-47 to replace Scotus Justice Stephen Breyer when he retires in June,

making Brown Jackson after 232 years and 115 prior appointments the first black woman

to occupy a seat on the highest court in the land. Where these two stories intersect and overlap,
