Summary

Filmed over three years, the new HBO docuseries Q: INTO THE STORM (2021) seeks to find an answer to the question that plagued the Trump years: who is Q, the mysterious leader of the "QAnon" movement? The documentary offers a provisional answer... but of course, there is no one simple explanation for how QAnon came to dominate the past few years. We discuss the backwash of the Trump era, PLUS: a report on Fox News' new late-night talk show "Gutfeld!"

I think you're crazy, I think you're crazy, I think you're crazy, I think you're crazy, just like you.

Welcome to Michael and us, I'm Will Sloan here as always with Luke Savage. Welcome back everyone.

Something that I think about sometimes when we do this podcast in this in this new era that we're in,

0:28.7

this post, Bernie, post, Jeremy Corbin moment is like, what is the show even going to be now?

0:36.0

I'm sure a lot of sort of left media thinks about this, like if you don't have this stuff on the

0:41.2

horizon, these obvious things on the horizon that we're working towards, what is the narrative arc?

0:46.6

What are we going into? And I don't actually have an answer to that question, but what I do know is

0:51.2

that I watched a clip of Fox News' new late night talk show Got Felt. It's Got Felt with an

0:58.2

exclamation mark. It's their response to Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel. It's an angry guy,

1:05.0

his name is Got Felt by the way. And the reason I had such a long-winded intro into this is because

1:10.8

I feel like this era, this Biden era hasn't quite created itself yet. It doesn't have a shape,

1:16.3

but doesn't have an identity. And what we're seeing right now is the backwater,

1:21.2

the bilge of the previous era. I think we'll see a little bit of that in the documentary that we

1:26.0

watched this week. Do you know what I mean? Does that make any sense to you at all?

1:29.6

Well, yeah, I mean, as Karl Marx says, the tradition of all dead generations weighs like a nightmare

1:34.6

on the brains of the living. It very much does feel that way. I think you're right that this era has

1:40.8

I mean, everyone and everything seems to be running on empty. It feels like all the sort of raw

1:46.0

material in politics and culture, you know, all the reflexes people are are following everything

1:52.7

is just sort of a hangover from, I don't know, the last four years. I suppose the, you know,

1:57.6

the obvious explanation for that is just the coronavirus. People are stuck indoors. They're still

2:03.1

thinking about the pandemic. They're thinking about not seeing their friends and family, et cetera.

2:07.7

And you know, that's kind of arresting people's ability to form any kind of new imaginary in politics
