Summary

A podcast about political cinema and our crumbling world. Hosted by Will Sloan and Luke Savage. In this episode, episode #166, we revisited Charlie Chaplin's Sadly Still Relevant® classic MODERN TIMES (1936) to ask: what are the politics of the Little Tramp... and what are the politics of his famous author? We discuss how Chaplin depicted work, class, and poverty, and the many ways that people have interpreted him. PLUS: Joe Biden as FDR (or not), and thee unholy return of Blockbuster Video.

Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

I saw that the official Blockbuster Twitter account has been active.

They got some engagement, and also the last blockbuster store in America and it always

1:15.5

seems like there's a last blockbuster store in America I feel like for years I've been

hearing about a different last blockbuster in America, but whichever it is they're holding a sleepover party,

1:26.4

like a slumber party that people can join, which is strange to me because the experience of sleeping

1:31.5

at a retail store is not something I'm particularly nostalgic for,

1:35.6

but I guess they're tapping into the feeling of like renting a video when you were a kid and having

a sleepover and watching the video.

1:43.0

A long time listeners will know that we're fans of Wet Movie 1 and Kool-Dooter,

1:47.0

the YouTube personalities, and we saw a YouTube video where Wet Movie 1 went to a blockbuster pop-up store in downtown Los Angeles,

1:56.2

and he got like blockbuster stickers and blockbuster t-shirts and blockbuster keychains, you know, just

with that iconic blue and yellow logo.
