Micah Bowie is in the fight of his life. The former MLB pitcher had stints from 1999-2008 with the Braves, Cubs, A's, Nationals and Rockies.

After retiring from the game due to injury, Micah had to receive back surgery. The back surgery resulted in severe lung damage as well as damage to his liver and diaphragm. Less than 10% of his lungs are functioning and as of January 2019, he is still requiring oxygen therapy everyday in order to stay alive.

On this episode of the podcast, Micah talks about his fight, the damage that was done from his back surgery that has caused the lung damage, how his faith in Christ is sustaining him, why he's been denied by the MLBPA for full benefits and the subsequent outreach from so different people and organizations to help in assisting him during this battle.

0:09.4	Micah is 44 years old, made his Major League Baseball debut July 24th, 1999, and last appeared in a game in April of 2008. He played in 1999 with the Braves and Cubs from 2002 to
0:24.0	2003 was with the athletics. 2006 to 2007 with the Washington Nationals. In 2008, he was with
0:31.2	the Colorado Rockies. But Micah's story and the reason he's joining us here on the podcast
0:36.0	is not to talk baseball, although
0:39.2	baseball intersects with the story that's being told. Because as a result of his baseball career,
0:46.0	Micah has had to receive back surgery. And that back surgery resulted in severe lung damage
0:53.4	where less than 10% of his lungs are functioning.
0:57.6	And as of January of this year, 2019, he is in the fight of his life.
1:03.5	The MLBPA has denied benefits for him.
1:06.3	He's literally 20 days short of a 25-man roster. the experience he needed to be on the 25-man roster
1:14.1	to qualify. Every day, Micah requires oxygen therapy in order to stay alive. And indeed,
1:23.0	that was what was happening today. I was alerted to this story yesterday. When I say yesterday, that was
1:29.7	January 28th, a Monday. The Washington posted a story on him on January 27th, which I think is what
1:36.4	prompted some of the people in my circle to let me know about the story. And I was connected to
1:43.4	Micah fairly quickly through people in our ministry with
1:46.9	sports spectrum, first of all to pray for him, which I hope we will all do, but then to see if
1:52.3	he would do an interview. And I think it was really Micah who wanted to do this kind of interview
1:56.8	to get his story out, but also to really have people hear the hope that he has in
2:04.3	about as bad a circumstance from a human perspective as we can look at, a person who's really
2:10.1	suffering and in the fight of his life.
