Hello everyone and welcome to police off the cuff real crime stories.

I'm your host, retired NYPD Sergeant Bill Cannon, the 27-year veteran of the NYPD.

You know, folks, the more I cover this Michael Miller case and, of course, her husband,

John Paul Miller, the pastor, and then to see and hear the tragic end, of course,

that occurred here.

And my big question today is,

would more aggressive police investigation have prevented this tragedy?

And I have real, real questions about that

because it seems as though,

even though there were a great deal of police reports being made in regards to the

harassment that Micah was receiving from her husband, who she was involved in divorce proceedings

from, he never took a collar. He never got arrested. And would a potentially well-placed arrest have chilled

this dude out? Because I think the more we learn right now about this guy and perhaps the more we

learn about this church, there's some for gazingness, as we would say in New York,

you know, and he seems to have gotten away with really a great deal of abuse towards his wife.

You know, in New York City, and that's my point of reference, of course, because I was a 27-year NYPD

veteran, a sergeant for 22 years.

Domestic violence cases were handled with great, great care because history taught the NYPD

and undoubtedly taught other police departments.

If the police didn't intervene,

then the case would escalate and things would not get better.

So I think probably in the early 80s,
