And only fitting that our introduction today should come from state side, because that is where the tennis world is still focused just at the moment.

This is our Miami Midway update podcast. And it's all a bit sort of messy because it's one of these tournaments that isn't quite a two-weeker.

Probably should be a one-weeker. We can't quite put our finger on what stage the men's and the women's competitions are at,

but we know they're at different stages. That much is sure. And these sort of extended 1,000 events is actually something that the ATP are pushing for more of.

They want Madrid, Rome and a couple of others, I think, to be extended events. And that is something that Simon Briggs touches upon in our boot on the ground live from Miami report from Simon Briggs,

which David, we're delighted to have in the show.

So I'm wondering around Miami under the palm trees at the Hard Rock Stadium. It's quite pleasant here. The sun is shining.

Relatively quiet around the ground that's just gone 11 and Cameron Norris coming out and caught to play Hugo Gaston.

So when I come to this tournament, I can't help but think about the old Miami Open,

which was staged at Crandon Park on the other side of Miami, which is a very romantic tropical island that had to be reached across a causeway,

and full of mangrove trees and iguanas and all such one of the tropical life.

And I remember last time I was in Crandon Park 2018, I wrote a column about the move and I was up most of the night trying to come up with some arresting imagery and some zingers.
