Summary

Sensible Running Resolutions

It's that time again, time to carefully consider what we should do in 2020 to take our running and our lives to the next level. Since the options for running resolutions are almost infinite, I thought I'd provide some insight into the advantages of some types of resolutions and the pitfalls of others.

In this episode of the Mojo for Running Podcast, I discuss goal of more miles than you've done before, the goal of a longer distance than you've ever run before, the goal of maintaining a running streak, and the goal of aiming for a PR.

Beyond that, we'll look at other kinds of goals I recommend you pursue, non-running goals.

Above all else, you need to set a meaningful goal. Some will plan to do 2,020 miles. But, why? Seriously, it's just a number that happens to be the year, but what would be your reason for wanting to do that number of miles?

Please give this some thought. Besides being meaningful, your goal should be reasonable, achievable. Then, you should start thinking about the process goals you'll need to achieve to get you to your goal. Hopefully, this episode will give you some ideas and guidance.

Hi, this is Debbie Boyle's coach at Mojo for Running with episode number 143, Sensible Running Resolutions for 2020.

0:26.5

Okay, let's talk about resolutions.

0:33.0

As I record this, it's December 27th, and for runners, that date, that time of year,

0:35.5

brings us to thoughts of goals.

0:40.9

We runners love goals. I recommend setting a goal that includes something else, though, besides running. In fact, I think you should actually plan three

0:46.3

resolutions, but don't get carried away three is plenty. First of all, I know you're going to

0:52.7

have a running goal for next year, and that's great, and that's most of what we'll talk about today.

0:57.8

But second, I want you to think about a goal having to do with cross-training.

1:03.1

Most runners don't do nearly enough cross-training.

1:05.8

Don't focus on it enough.

1:07.6

And I think that's a good thing.

1:09.1

I think your cross-training will have a massive impact

1:12.4

on improving your running. So that's the second thing. Running, I mean, cross-training could be

1:18.1

a number of miles cycled or a number of days cycling every week or something having to do with

1:24.6

stair climbing or jumping rope or swimming or rollerblading or rowing

1:29.6

or tennis or a number of fitness classes at the gym and on and on so think about that a third thing

1:37.3

i think you should think about and this is different from the other two is maybe just have a goal to

1:42.7

in 2020 if you're not a member an active member

1:46.4

of running community a running club like mine run Tampa find one in your city and join it

1:54.2

and really become active and involved in 2020 that would be a really great goal for anybody

2:00.5

so now let's look more individually

2:03.7

at these things. My big recommendation, though, is that you be careful not to overdo your resolutions
