Food has always been an important part of Jimna Rosas Montiel's life.

She still remembers when she was six years old, helping her abuelita make the dough, or

masa, for sopes, a thick type of tortilla that's usually fried.

El sope es como una tortilla gourda.

Las personas las hacen con una máquina, pero mi abuelita las hacía a mano.
