Hello and welcome to News Hour from the BBC World Service. We're coming to you live from London. I'm James Menendez.

And we're going to begin today with the flood of announcements coming out of the new Trump administration in Washington.

It is easy to forget that it is only three days since the inauguration.

In a moment, we'll be looking at what it means for immigration.

In particular, Mr. Trump's pledged to deport millions and millions of undocumented migrants

and how Mexico is preparing for those returns.

But first, let's hear briefly from a speech that President Trump gave to the World Economic Forum taking place in Davos in Switzerland a little earlier.

It was essentially a rundown of his policies and plans, but did focus on trade and the threat of US tariffs on imports.

He told the audience that foreign businesses should make their products in America

if they wanted to avoid those tariffs or taxes.

My message to every business in the world is very simple. Come make your product in America

and we will give you among the lowest taxes of any nation on earth. We're bringing them down very substantially, even from the

original Trump tax cuts. But if you don't make your product in America, which is your

prerogative, then very simply you will have to pay a tariff, differing amounts,

but a tariff which will direct hundreds of billions of dollars and even trillions

of dollars into our treasury to strengthen our economy and pay down debt.

When it comes to immigration, it emerged today an elite government memo that the White House

wants to send up to 10,000 more troops to the border with Mexico to help curb the number of

people trying to cross illegally. That's in addition to the border with Mexico to help curb the number of people trying to cross illegally.

That's in addition to the 1,500 troops announced yesterday, we'll start building more barriers along the border.

At the same time, President Trump began his second term in office, promising to begin the biggest mass deportation of undocumented migrants in US history.

He also wants to end automatic citizenship for babies born in America, an order blocked today
