Summary

Today’s word of the day is ‘investment’ as in the Mets made one in Kumar Rocker by selecting him 10th overall in the 2021 MLB Draft as in the Mets not signing Rocker and losing the pick. What the hell happened? Why did the Mets promise so much money and not follow through? Did the Mets know about his elbow? Did Scott Boras mess this up? (19:10) Let’s talk about the MLB Trade Deadline. It was a busy, busy deadline! (24:25) Did the Cubs and Nationals have a fire sale? No! They traded away players with one year left on their deals. They made the smart move. Does it suck? Yes! But these teams needed to think about the future. (28:20) The Yankees swept the Marlins after the trade deadline. Does it mean the Yankees made all the right moves? (29:10) What about the Mets? (30:20) Fernando Tatis Jr left the Padres game again with his shoulder injury. This is more unfortunate news for a team that’s battling it out with the Giants and Dodgers in the NL West. (35:35) Review: My Blind Brother. (37:35) NPPOD. (40:55) Wait to see update. (42:20) Starling Castro has been suspended for 30 days. The Nationals say he’s not playing for them anymore. So what is MLB doing with Trevor Bauer? Will he play again for the Dodgers? investment. That's the nothing personal word of the day today is Monday, August 2nd, 2021.

0:28.3

A weekend it was investment is the word of the day we're going to start with the

0:32.7

Mets. They did something that a lot of Mets fans are concerned about a lot of

0:37.7

people in the sports world are trying to figure it out. Let me unpack it for you.

0:42.6

The draft happens that's when people who are in college or high school they become eligible

0:48.6

to be drafted for Major League Baseball. Baseball tries to make a big deal of it. No one cares,

0:53.0

no one's heard of the players, players show up awkwardly, they get drafted and then you never

0:58.6

hear from them again for years because they go to the minor leagues and develop. So it's totally not

1:03.3

like the NBA, totally not like the NFL. You can have the first pick in the draft and that

1:11.0

player may not even make the big leagues or it can make the big leagues and be good but not great.

1:17.3

You can have players drafted in the second, third, fourth round. Basically it's a 50-50

1:21.2

proposition but let me educate you. Steve Cohen the owner of the Mets tweeted that he said education

1:31.2

time. He's teaching us. Thank you Steve for teaching us. We appreciate that. We want to learn from you

1:38.8

sensei. I think I have a better chance of learning how to catch a fly with Chop Six than I do

1:44.1

of having you teach me about the value of draft picks. But that said, here's what happened. The Mets

1:51.6

during the draft, they drafted a pitcher from Vanderbilt. His name is Kumar Rocker. We talked about

1:57.4

him on Friday but let me explain why he fell in the draft. In theory, he was this great pitcher for

2:02.8

Vanderbilt teammates with Jack Lider. All of a sudden he's the tenth pick in the draft. Mets are

2:08.0

super excited. The Mets fans are going crazy. Scott Riley is dancing in the streets along with Mick.

2:14.4

Everyone's happy. Then Rumor gets out that he's hurt. They're not going to sign him. Can't be true.

2:22.8

Are the Mets that out of touch? Are they that poorly run that they're going to waste their tenth

2:28.4

pick in the draft? Which is a pretty high pick. It means they had the tenth worst record in the
