Good Thursday morning. I'm Erica Hill. It's March 26. Here are the five things you need to know to start your day.

Number one, the Iran impasse. The White House insists that talks to end the war with Iran are still on, but Tehran hasn't agreed to that 15-point plan the U.S. put on the table.

In fact, Iran's foreign minister acknowledges they've exchanged messages but says that does not amount to real negotiations.

Two sources telling CNN the administration is working to arrange a meeting with Vice President

J.D. Vance in Pakistan this weekend to discuss an off-ramp, but they also cautioned the timing

and the location are still fluid.

They are negotiating, by the way, and they want to make a deal so badly, but they're afraid to say it

because they figure they'll be killed by their own people. They're also afraid they'll be killed by us.

Strikes continue from both sides and have also included what are considered to be non-starters

when it comes to the demands for both sides.

Among them, the U.S. wants to take control of Iran's highly enriched uranium and also limit

the country's defense capabilities.

Iran, for its part, wants to be paid for damages it has suffered in this war and also to

control the Strait of Hormuz.

CNN also has new reporting that Iran has been laying traps and preparing for the U.S. to

possibly seize Karg Island, which is critical when it comes to control of the strait,

despite being hundreds of miles away. That tiny island handles roughly 90% of Iran's crude oil

exports. Any ground operation there would come

with the risk of significant U.S. casualties. Number two, the landmark case. For the second

time this week, META is on the losing end of a massive lawsuit. After nine days of deliberations,

a California jury found META and YouTube liable for intentionally getting a woman

addicted to their sights.
