I'm Alex Osala for the Wall Street Journal. Meta has launched an artificial intelligence

business agent across WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger.

For now, the tool can answer customer questions, book appointments, and close sales.

But in the future, the company says the agent will be able to conduct market research,

provide competitive intelligence, and help manage businesses' calendars.

Meta had been testing the AI agent before today's launch, and the company said it already has 1 million business customers.

It's free for now, but it will become a paid subscription service.

Macy's has raised its outlook for the year after sales in the first quarter climbed 1.8%.

The department store company says customers are spending more when they visit its stores and website.
