Well, today is shakeup at Signal.

That's the app that lets users send messages, photos, and videos with end-to-end encryption.

Anything sent through the app is encoded in such a way that only the intended receiver can open it. Even the app itself can't see what was sent. Neither can your phone provider or,

you know, the government. That's why it's popular with folks working with classified materials,

or communicating from places under threat of government surveillance. The platform has more than

40 million monthly users, according to The Verge. Last week, the app's co-founder and CEO said he was stepping down.
