It's Friday. It's Roch, hooding. We're heavy heart. Watching Ukraine suffer and Keeve encircled.

I spent a month bouncing between Donetsk and Keeve during Euro 2012. A tournament.

It was meant to announce the nation's progress to the rest of the world, progress which was made.

And now seems cruelly set to be ripped from Ukrainian hands.

Over the last week, I have been thinking a lot and communicating with the friends that I made across Ukraine in that time.

Let's just say, Yurkin Klopp's insistence that football is the most important, least important thing has never felt more appropriate, no more accurate.

As the world is plunged into darkness, pain, trauma, chaos, the echoes of the past, ricocheting through the present.

Everything we thought was laid behind us in history has been laid bare as our future.

And for more on Ukraine, we'll touch upon it today.

But I will say we did release an emergency pod special yesterday, which please, I'd encourage you, give it a listen to.

It's bloody hard to take, agonizing really. And the short of it is, football is truly at a moment of reckoning, global football in terms of the extent to which Russian money has penetrated all corners of the game for the purposes of soft power and influence peddling.

And we know this football too often hopes just to keep its heads down and push through moments of moral challenge, whatever having to take action.

Not on this occasion, not on this occasion at all. Football has no choice, no choice, but to face up to its dealings or else be complicit.

And we'll discuss more on that in a moment. We're going to lot to get through.

But big love to everyone in Ukraine right now. We are with you. We are all connected in this fight.

We make no mistake or deeply, deeply profoundly connected. I just say to better days ahead for all.
