Summary

As vacation season is upon us, it might be worth considering what a truly perfect one looks like.

While the places we go and the people we meet certainly matter, what matters even more is often less noteworthy and perhaps more important. The most remarkable of vacations are the ones where you are fully present with the ones you love most.

Today, I share the lesson my son taught me of the real magic of vacation.

0:39.7	I know. Someone's got to do this kind of work. So I had the opportunity of traveling to Hawaii. After cashing in a bunch of airline miles, I was also fortunate
0:46.3	to bring my family along to create some special memories in Maui. We reveled in its unmatched
0:53.0	natural beauty and we lived the spirit of Aloha together.
0:57.5	It was simply awesome. While thinking through all the things that we did together during our trip,
1:03.2	though, a comment from one of my kids reminded me that sometimes it's not the big things that matter
1:09.7	most. Sometimes, maybe even most of the time.
1:14.4	It's actually the little things that matter most in our lives. Let me explain. On our flight back
1:20.7	home, one of my little guys was next to me on the plane and we made a list of all the cool things we did
1:26.4	together. I asked which one from the list was his favorite.
1:31.3	Was it snorkeling and seeing sea turtles?
1:34.9	Was it watching the sunset from a sailboat?
1:37.5	Hanging out and watching a luau on a beach?
1:40.7	Building sandcastles, dancing in the waves,
1:43.3	a car trip to a volcano?
1:45.0	Nope, it was none of those.
1:48.0	The highlight involved something far less extravagant than a day trip.
