Happy Saturday everyone and welcome to another weekend edition of Fearless

Rejason Whitlock. The recap of the fire starters on Monday we were off we honored

our fallen soldiers, the men and women who sacrificed everything for American

freedom. We can't say thank you enough but we came back on Tuesday trying to thank

you and trying to explain to our viewers and listeners how we've switched from

a culture of gratitude to a culture of entitlement and you can see that in

Memorial Day which was actually started in 1865 in South Carolina by black

freed slaves who were so thankful for the Union soldiers that sacrificed for

them. They started the Memorial Day tradition. I expound on that and choose

these fire starter. 157 years ago freed American black people inspired the

Memorial Day celebration at a park in Charleston, South Carolina approximately

10,000 Americans led by black school children and church leaders gathered to

honor the sacrifice of 251 Union soldiers buried at the site of an outdoor

Confederate prison camp. It was May 1st 1865 just three weeks after General

Robert Ely surrendered at Appomattox and three months after Charles McBeth the

Mayor of Charleston surrendered his city to Union forces. A spirit of gratitude

triggered the outpouring of remembrance and desired to give Union soldiers a

proper burial. Three years later John Logan the commander-in-chief of the

Grand Army of the Republic a fraternity of Union soldiers proclaimed May 30 as

decoration day. A hundred years later Congress renamed it Memorial Day. The

origin of Memorial Day is more important today than perhaps at any time in
