These are all terms you've probably heard before in your maybe first year biology class,

and you're probably sitting there thinking, what the hell are they talking about?

What are we talking about today, Matt?

Public transport.

We're talking about membrane transport.

There's a lot to talk about today, but I think we can do it in a relatively short amount of time.

So I think the best place to start is with a concept known as diffusion.

Yeah, I think you just mentioned a whole lot of words.

I think you should define those first.

Yeah, that's a good point. All right. So a couple of definitions, solute and solvent. Okay, so a solute is

something that's dissolved in a solvent. Yep. And solvent is a fluid? Yep. Like water. Yeah,

well, that's the universal solvent is water.

And when we talk about biology, which we are today, we're only talking about water.

So anytime myself or Matt says solvent, you must just think water.
