Melinda Gates is a philanthropist, businesswoman, an advocate for women and girls.

In 2019, she added best-selling author to that resume with a memoir on her life and work.

A huge part of that work is with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The massive philanthropy started with her husband, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, who was the

richest man in the world for the better part of two decades and is still worth north of $95 billion. The Foundation works to improve

global health and focuses on the developing world, where the Gateses have seen firsthand

what greater gender equality can do to local communities and economies.

Getting more of that gender equality is what Melinda calls her moment of lift.
