Melanie Slate grew up in Ridgewood, New Jersey on, she was born on October 8, 1972.

After graduating from high school, she enrolled at Rutgers University with a double major in math

and psychology. She graduated in 1994 and then attended nursing school

where she graduated second in her class in 1997. Her mom describes Melanie

as every mother's dream, a good girl, someone who never got in trouble,

someone who's very supportive of her family, a wonderful student.

And all of these traits are what attracted Bill McGuire to her.
