Summary
Can you believe it’s been 30 years since the release of the Spice Girls’ seminal debut single “Wannabe”? Bananas. Now in her 50s Melanie C — formerly Mel C, or known to many as Sporty Spice — joins us on the couch to chat about her new, euphoric album ‘Sweat.’ Born from her abiding love of dance music, which started as a teenager on the Costa Brava in Spain as a teenager and was reignited when she started DJing and hanging out with LDN’s influential queer DJ collective Sink the Pink.
We talk to her about all this, her workout regime (abs!), the harshness of British tabloids and the phone hacking scandal affected so many high profile people in the UK for well over a decade. Melanie also reflects on the Spice Girls — both then and now — and if a reunion might be on the cards.
Plus, she drops some great stories about Madonna and Liza Minelli, while also discussing some of the collaborators she worked with on ‘Sweat.’

| 1:32.2 | Isn't it scary that like you literally live so much life? And you think you remember a lot of it and all of it, but you really, like our memory is very Swiss cheese. Yeah. Oh, totally. It's, I don't know. Like, why do we remember certain things and not others? And yeah, I think especially that time we were together, you know, the real spice mania, like mid to late 90s, it was so hectic. Your brain just can't keep up with it. Yeah, it's a lot. Yeah, you kind of just need to keep going for survival. Yeah, yeah, totally in survival mode. That's so true. And it's hard to stay present. Yeah. But now we're in a totally different spot. We are. The album is so good. Yeah. Thank you. I'm so excited. You should be. It's listen to the album. It's bangers. It makes you want to go to the club and dance. Yes. |
