Hello kids, this is Risk, the show where people tell true stories they never thought they

dare to share.

I'm Kevin Allison, and every Thursday we release these special episodes where we look

back at content from our earlier years.

Sometimes single stories, sometimes whole episodes, keep in mind that years ago people might

have awarded things differently than they would today.

As always, the title of the whole series, Risk, is itself a content warning.

This week a story that Byron Bowers first shared on the podcast in February of 2017, Byron

has expanded a lot of the stories that he first workshopped on Risk into a phenomenal

comedy special that is on Hulu right now all about Byron's evolving understanding of

mental health and his relationship with his father.

It's an honor for us that people feel like they can come to risk to work on material that

is raw and fresh and maybe not yet worded as carefully as they might ultimately choose.

Byron uses the word crazy several times in the story you're about to hear, which we've

all been learning is not the most thoughtful way to refer to mental health issues.

Nevertheless, I feel that Byron's heart was in the right place right from the beginning

of working on these sorts of stories right here on Risk, so we're quite honored to present

the earliest versions of some of these.
