Summary

(Psalm 23:1) Have you ever wondered why God so often refers to His people as sheep? It’s because people, like sheep, are defenseless. There is an enemy after us! We need the guidance, provision, and even the pasture of our Good Shepherd. Today we will meet God’s sheep – and you’ll find that you already know them. We turn our attention again today to Psalm 23,

0:56.2

and we are going to walk through these six verses very methodically over the next few studies. But I would point out to you that the very first verse is broken down into two parts, and the two parts are two people. And the entire Psalm really

revolves around these two people. The first is the Lord, and the second is me and you, us individually.

1:13.1

You have the shepherd and you have the sheep.

1:16.5

And it's vital that we look at both of these and not only look at both of them individually,

1:20.5

but in the relationship to one another.

1:23.0

You know, life can get pretty complex at times, can it?

1:26.2

And situations get pretty complicated. Our relationships,

1:28.6

even with others, can get very, very tangled up. But if you can reduce life, if you can boil it

1:35.3

all down to its you and the Lord, just you and the Lord, then you have discovered the beautiful

1:42.3

secret to the life of peace and of blessing.

1:46.4

And I really believe that is what this shepherd, David, is helping us to understand about our good, great, and chief shepherd, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Have you ever wondered why we are seen so often in Scripture as sheep?

Now, let me take a moment today and show you in the Psalms that this is not a new

suggestion in Psalm 23, and it is not isolated here.

2:09.3

In fact, it is woven throughout the Psalms.
