I'm Eam Eam Yshael Sender in Washington, where the Trump administration is escalating its legal and political fight to deploy the military to Democratic-run cities, including Portland and Chicago.

This comes after a late night ruling yesterday by a Trump-appointed federal judge who accused the Trump administration of defying her earlier

court order blocking the deployment of National Guard troops to Portland.

Today, multiple White House officials slammed the judge's ruling on Portland.

With all due respect to that judge, I think her opinion is untethered in reality and in the law. The president is using

his authority as commander-in-chief U.S. Code 12406, which clearly states that the president has the

right to call up the National Guard in cases where he deems it's appropriate. We are appealing

that decision. As you know, we expect a hearing on it pretty quickly. And we're very confident in the president's legal authority to do this,

and we're very confident we will win on the merits of the law.

When a judge assumes for him or herself the powers that have been relegated or delegated

by the Constitution to the president, that that is a form of a legal insurrection.
