Welcome to meet the press now. I'm Kristen Welker and Washington at the start of a truly critical

week. The White House and Speaker McCarthy are turning from making a deal to raising the debt ceiling,

to selling that deal, to anxious and angry members of their respective parties. After days of

back and forth negotiations, the president and

the speaker announced their agreement over the weekend, but Congress has to vote on the deal

and they need to do it before the deadline for a government default. That's one week from today.

Already, President Biden is facing backlash from within his own party with the leader of the

Congressional Progressive Caucus warning the White House,

more than 100 lawmakers might not support the deal.
