after a Delaware jury found Hunter Biden, President Biden's only living son

guilty on three felony counts tied to gun possession while using drugs.

It is the first time in American history that a sitting president's child has been

convicted of a felony in a criminal trial.

Right now, President Biden is on his way to Delaware where he is likely to see his

son. The verdict today followed days of deeply personal testimony detailing

Hunter Biden's struggles with addiction. This afternoon Special Counsel David Weiss,

the Trump appointed prosecutor who was later tapped

by President Biden's attorney general, Merrick Garland,

to oversee the case spoke about the verdict.

This case was about the illegal choices defendant made while in the throes of addiction,

his choice to lie on a government form when he bought a gun and the choice to then possess that gun.

It was these choices and the combination of guns and drugs that made his conduct dangerous.

Everyone must be accountable for their actions, even this defendant.

However, Hunter Biden should be no more accountable than any other citizen convicted of this same conduct. The prosecution has been and

will continue to be committed to this principle.

Hunter Biden did not address reporters when he left court.

He later put out a statement saying,

quote, I am more grateful today for the love and support I experienced this last week from my wife Melissa, my family, my

friends and my community then I am disappointed by the outcome. This afternoon
