I'm Chuck Todd reporting from Washington, a city that has been essentially waiting for a big shoe to drop, and it's not dropping, at least not today.

New reporting suggests that a

potential third criminal indictment could be imminent for former President Donald Trump. But sources tell

NBC News that Trump's attorneys met with prosecutors in the special counsel's office today,

and we're told to expect an indictment against the former president in the special counsel's

investigation into his efforts to overturn the 2020 election and, of course,

the January 6 fallout.

The former president on Truth Social confirmed that his attorneys met with DOJ this morning.

He called the meeting productive but said that there was no indication of notice given during

the meeting.

All of this comes as a grand jury is meeting today, but a courtroom deputy told reporters

Still, it certainly seems likely that something is about to happen soon, and the grand jurors

haven't left yet for what it's worth. Last month, a similar meeting between Trump's attorneys

and the Justice Department happened just a few days before Trump himself announced that he'd been indicted for his mishandling of classified documents after he left the White House.

He joins me now to try to sort of give a sub-clarity of what, and look, we were just discussing, if we'd want to simply apply

the Jack Smith timeline from before to the Jack Smith timeline to today, we shouldn't expect
