0:17.1	stage is officially set for the first Republican presidential debate tomorrow night.
0:23.0	And a very good day to you.
0:24.2	I'm Kristen Welker reporting from our NBC station WTMJ right here in Milwaukee.
0:29.9	Eight candidates have met the Republican Party's polling and fundraising thresholds,
0:34.2	and signed a pledge to support the eventual GOP nominee.
0:37.7	Four candidates will not be on stage in all four taking issue with the RNC's requirements.
0:43.3	But the biggest absence on tomorrow night stage will be the Republican frontrunner former
0:47.3	President Donald Trump, who cited his commanding lead in the race as a reason not to attend.
0:53.4	He also refused to sign the RNC's pledge to support the eventual nominee if it's not
0:58.0	him.
0:59.0	According to the debate, here's what several candidates are saying about Mr. Trump's absence.
1:04.3	Everybody should debate.
1:06.4	Everybody has a responsibility to earn people's votes.
1:10.8	Nobody is entitled to anything in this world, less of all the Republican nomination for
1:16.7	President.
1:17.7	He's been on that debate stage countless times.
1:19.2	He's also been U.S. President for four years.
1:21.5	So if he wants to skip the first couple of them, I have no issue with that.
1:24.5	But I do think he should be on the debate stage at some point throughout the course of
1:29.0	this year.
1:30.0	I think it will be a vigorous exchange, even though Donald Trump will not be there.
