Abby and Robbie Martin interview former AT&T technician and whistleblower Mark Klein about his experience exposing AT&T's cataloging and duplication of private user data for the NSA, and why every American should be concerned about private sector surveillance. Mark goes into his personal history of being an anti-war activist during the Vietnam War and how it led to his distrust of the two party system. He also discusses NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden's leaks and the journalists distributing them.

I'm going to Hello, welcome to Media Roots Radio. This is Ropi Martin. I will be joined by Abby Martin and Mark Klein, who was a former AT&T employee who blew the whistle on NSA

illegal bulk data collection back in 2004. Mark, why don't we, why don't we begin with you

2:40.8

in a new room being built a few walks away at a office called 6-11 Folsom Street.

2:50.2

And over the next week's month, we found that this room was being installed,

2:55.9

that only this one guy could go into, none of the union techs could go into it. So we knew right

3:02.0

away that this was a secret NSA room being built. And the following year, 2003, I happened to be transferred to that office and was assigned

3:15.6

to oversee the Internet room.
