Summary

Click here for the full episode, including the extended interview with Alan MacCleod and fan suggestions for military-grade baby names: https://usefulidiots.substack.com/p/extended-episode-media-and-biden?r=je5va&s=w&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web This week, Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was killed by Israeli forces. The way the New York Times reported it was that she “die[d]”: The Times, CBS News, the Associated Press, and more corporate media outlets all referred to the incident, in which Israeli military opened fire on journalists, through words like “clash,” “conflict,” or other misleading terms to cast doubt on who the attackers were. Multiple eye witnesses confirmed the Israeli military shot and killed Abu Akleh. Journalist Alan MacCleod of MintPress News joins the Useful Idiots to expose media bias and propaganda that’s become increasingly difficult to dig through. (We highly recommend following his twitter to stay informed) In the extended interview, Alan uncovers the dark truth of TikTok’s shady executives and a Ukrainian news source that’s become a favorite of western corporate media but isn’t what it seems. And unfortunately, as we learned with Mnar Adley last week, MintPress’s journalism is at stake after sites like PayPal decided to wipeout the accounts of dissenting voices. “If you are going to challenge the government or challenge power in any way,” MacCleod explains. “You might want to remove your money from PayPal because it could get zapped at any point just like it happened to me.” Plus, Biden ditches Covid relief to spend more money on weapons for Ukraine, Lindsey Graham’s war-mongering speech, and a funeral proposal. It’s all this, and more, on this week’s episode of Useful Idiots. Check it out. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

the I'm blank and I'm why, you know, Hans and Ron. Yeah. Yeah. For people to know it,

that it was a skit on SNL in the late 80s, early 90s featuring Dana Carvey and Kevin Neillin.

0:39.4

It was a great skit. Great skit. And they were like, I guess, Austrian or German bodybuilders.

0:46.5

hilarious. And they're like, I'm Hans and I'm Franz. And we are here to pump you up. So, yeah.

0:53.4

And SNL for people who may not know is Saturday Night Live. And Saturday Night Live for people

0:58.5

who may not know because I don't think anyone watches it is a show on NBC late Saturday nights.

1:05.3

Used to be a real thing. Be a sweet thing. Did you watch it ever? Like regular?

1:09.5

A rich, cool enough course, of course. Yeah. Speaking of SNL, I went to a live taping of a dress rehearsal.

1:16.9

So I'm not sure if that's live taping. It's a dress rehearsal like right before they do it. It's

1:21.2

that night. So it's not live taping. Forget the live taping part. It's just a dress rehearsal.

1:26.8

They probably do tape it, but it's not live on television. Anyway, I went and I saw the cranberries

1:34.4

and George Clooney was the host that night. And I went backstage with my friend. I was in eighth grade.

1:41.7

I remember my friend. I went to school with someone who's had a parent involved in SNL. And she was

1:48.0

like, Oh, I want to see the cranberries this weekend. You want to go see the cranberries with me at SNL?

1:52.3

I started to laugh. I was like, Yeah, it sounds great. Who's the host? And she's like,

1:55.4

this guy named George Clooney. I'm like, uh, George Clooney, he's on ER. She's like, Oh,

2:00.3

see the hot guy? I'm like, Yeah. So we went, we went backstage. I have to find it. But both of us got

2:06.3

a signed photo of George Clooney. He gave each of us a signed photograph of himself, like a very

2:12.6

dramatic 1940s kind of headshot. And it said to my, he wrote to my friend, um, to blank best wishes.
