40% of all British households are overpaying for their broadband, according to the regulator ofcom.

Out of contract and left on a high tariff, loyalty is penalised.

And the extra cost, at least £100 a year, and it could be considerably more.

But Offcom has decided to do something about this.

And from Saturday, broadband providers have to tell customers when their contract comes to an end and tell customers the best deals offered to new clients.

father, Edward, over Christmas, to look at his broadband options.

He's perfectly happy with these packages it was.

It's nice and fast, whip it fast, as they say up north.

But he was concerned that it was rather expensive.

It's about £50 a month for a service that BT call Super Fast Fibre.

He's not very mobile and he receives a small pension. He relies on his landline and his email for contact with friends and family.
