morning wire afternoon update.

In defiance of 227 years of congressional history, the Democrat-led Senate refuses to hold a full

impeachment trial against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Myorkis.

Democrat Majority Leader Chuck Schumer quickly moved today to dismiss both articles,

asking for a truncated debate rather than a full trial.

Republicans including Senator Eric Schmidt of Missouri objected.

Never before in the history of our republic has the Senate dismissed or tabled articles of impeachment when the impeached individual was alive and had not resigned.

As Senator Schumer said in 2020,

quote, a fair trial has witnesses.

A fair trial has relevant documents as part of the record.

A fair trial seeks the truth.

Nothing more, nothing less. I will not assist Senator Schumer in setting

our Constitution ablaze and bulldozing 200 years of precedent.

Schumer's motion to dismiss the two articles as unconstitutional passed along party lines, killing the trial before it began.

Republicans say Secretary Myorkis has failed to do his job and comply with U.S. immigration policy.

They've also condemned the Democrats' dismissal of the trial as an attempt to give political cover to President Biden.
