Summary

Frank and Gwen break down romance novel stereotypes with fellow NYPL librarian Anne Rouyer. The genre often gets dismissed as fluff, but romance can subvert the traditional confines of gender, power, class, and more. (Gay Regency, anyone?)

Anne's Recommendations

Social Intercourse by Greg Howard

The Wicked and the Wallflower by Sarah Maclean

Unmasked by the Marquess and It Takes Two to Tumble by Cat Sebastian

My Oxford Year by Julia Whelan (for those who love Me Before You by Jojo Moyes)

Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging: Confessions of Georgia Nicolson by Louise Rennison

And for a non-book recommendation: 'Hiyori's Bed & Breakfast'

I sort of can't believe it either. It is. Yeah. You clearly weren't paying attention. Clearly not. Because you have, I mean, as far as I know, you're, I don't know how far range, you're, you're, you seem to have a lot of different interests in a lot of different fields and a lot of different genres. My fingers are in a lot of pies, yes. Okay. I know romance. I know... Boy bands. Boy bands. I know you're obsessed with the royals. Yes. All right. Can I tell a story of this story? Oh, sure. And this is just a good at Anne, a background about Anne. Anne and I were at a meeting together once and we were sitting next to each other and

2:09.2

Oh my god we're like in high school and I love it. I love it. And she just looked at me like even face. She was like yeah and I love what with Millerettmuth Miller. And you also, and then she also asked me to read, she wrote something on her notebook, because then we were like passing notes. We were like giggly kids in school. She wrote something in her notebook and asked me to say it out loud. Of course, I had to whisper because we had a meeting, and it was Bob Loblaw. Wait, what? She wrote the name, Bob.

2:34.5

Yeah? Is that a joke from something? I don't know. I don't know what that. She wrote B-O-B-S-O-B-L-A-Y. And she just said, Frank, read this out loud. And I looked over and I went, Bob La-Blaw. And then she went, she just did what you did. So we were like eighth graders and loving every minute of it.

2:33.9

So love... law. And then she went, she just did what you did. So we were like eighth graders and loving every minute of it.
