Hello and welcome to today's independent travel podcast with me Simon Calder for Tuesday the 9th of May and the carnival is well and truly over.

So I thought it would be good to look at travel opportunities you can anticipate warmly, particularly in the month of June. And to help me with this quest,

I'm delighted to welcome back my colleague Charlotte Hindle, who is going to ask some

telling questions. Hi. Yeah, so June, there's always good places to go and, you know,

and maybe places to avoid in certain months.

So what do you think June is particularly good for?

Any kind of package holiday where you don't want to be involved with those pesky kids

or indeed the prices that they precipitate.

So for the whole of June, apart from the very last few days

generally in Northern Ireland and Scotland, it is an non-school holiday month, which means that

if you are able to travel, you can expect much lower costs and emptier locations when you get there now we're

talking here specifically about particularly mediterranean tourist destinations so absolutely lovely time

of year to be on one of the spanish italian or greek islands getting hot on, of course, midsummer 21st of June,

is when you're really going to feel the sun as high in the sky as it's ever going to be.

And so my personal preference is for being rather further north,

when you can also take advantage of the fact that

getting towards the summer solstice you're going to get spectacular amounts of light.

So just going back to the heat, say in the more eastern parts of the Mediterranean,

I would have thought June would be pretty good actually

because July and August, you know, it's so incredibly hot.

You can't do anything.

But you're still thinking that June might still be a little bit warm, do you think?
