0:44.5	So the Department of Education has launched an investigation into Smith College.
0:49.4	Smith College is an all women's college.
0:51.9	And the investigation is over the school's policy of admitting
0:56.4	transgender women. Now, this investigation reportedly started after the conservative group
1:02.1	defending education filed a complaint with the Department of Education, arguing that Smith's policy
1:10.2	undermines sex-based protections for women by allowing students
1:16.2	who are biologically male to attend the school. Now, just for some context, Smith College
1:22.4	is a private liberal art school in Massachusetts. For the last 10 years or so since 2015, it has had this
1:30.1	policy of admitting students who identify as women regardless of their biological sex. Smith changed
1:36.8	its admissions policy after there was a transgender applicant who was denied admission because
1:42.5	some of the federal documents belonging to this
1:46.1	individual listed her sex as male. So after that controversy, the school moved towards this
