It's Tuesday morning. I'm Olivia Reingold, and this is your Politico Playbook Daily Briefing.

One year ago today, George Floyd was murdered by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.

Within a few days, protests erupted all over the country from Chicago,

to Washington, D.C., to soon all over the world.

We all watch in horror and consternation what's going on in the United States. No peace! No peace! No peace!

Now, 365 days later, President Joe Biden had hoped that Congress would have passed a police reform bill by now.

You might remember him setting this goal during his high profile addressed to Congress last month.

I know Republicans have their own ideas and are engaged in a very productive

discussions with Democrats in the Senate. We need to work together to find a consensus. But let's

get it done next month by the first anniversary of George Floyd's death. But with no bill

insight, Biden has instead invited Floyd's family to the Oval Office today.

They'll be having a closed door meeting at 1.30 p.m. no press allowed.

Before then, CNN is reporting this morning that the Floyd family will visit Congress meeting

with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senator Cory Booker, and Representative Karen Bass,

the lead House negotiator on the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.

Their goal? To press lawmakers to finish the legislation.

The big sticking point remains qualified immunity for police, but on Monday, Bass and the two

lead Senate negotiators, that's Booker, a Democrat, and Republican Tim Scott released a statement

noting their making, quote, progress towards a compromise

and remain optimistic about the prospects of achieving that goal.
