There are few decades in film history that have been as scrutinized as the 1980s. But to really understand the decade and its movies, it's going

to take a couple some ones who were there for it the first time around. Drew McQueenie

and Scott Weinberg are ready to review every major film of the decade one month at a time.

The look at what worked then, what endures now, and how it felt to be there when it all went

down.

It's the 80s all over. The NBA delivered a major upset when Larry Bird was voted rookie of the year over Magic Johnson. At the Cannes Film Festival in a rare split decision, both all that jazz and

Kagamusha won the Palm Dior. Mount St. Helens kept erupting while Love Canal, New York was evacuated in the biggest disaster of them all. Peter Chris quit the band Kiss.

Somehow, though, we soldiered on, and here's what we got to see in theaters as a reward in May of 1980. I'm Drew McQueenie, and as always, I am joined by my esteemed co-host on the show, Scott

Weinberg. Scott, how are you? I am good. I'm back from Fantastic Fest, and I got, of course,

super sick when I got home, but I am 95% better now, and I am ready to dive into arguably the

finest month of 1980.

How was Fantastic Fest overall? I'm super jealous. Many, many people asked how you were.

It was great as always. We had the feud. We had the debates. Lots of good movies. Lots of good food.

It was great. This is one of those months that is the reason we wanted to do this podcast in the first place.

That's part of the pleasure of this is, yeah, we all know that certain things came out in the

1980s, but until you put it month by month and kind of look at what was coming out,

group next to what else was coming out, you don't get a real picture of the decade.

And May of 1980 was amazing.
