We're teeing up this morning with one of the White House's blind spots. They appear to think politicians are rational actors. For instance, President Donald Trump was convinced dismissing James Comey would be popular with both parties, just because Democrats had criticized Comey.

And now we're seeing the same thing with Joe Lieberman, a former Senate Democrat, thinking they'll vote for him as FBI director.

It doesn't appear likely at this point.

Many Democratic senators tell our colleagues Burgess Everett and Sungman Kim Lieberman is a non-starter.

The New York Times, Mike Schmidt, continues his string of amazing stories this morning, this time

with a piece about how Jim Comey kept his distance from Trump and told the president he should follow

proper procedures when wanting details about the FBI's investigation.

The Washington Post is reporting this morning that Comey also prepared

extensively for his interactions with Trump out of concern that the president would not respect

legal and ethical boundaries. Remember Mike Pence, the vice president? He's nowhere to be found

these days. It's actually pretty stunning. CNN's Elizabeth Landers has the scoop on how although

Pence will continue to be a loyal soldier,

his operation didn't know the extent of what they were getting into.

New York Times, Peter Baker is reporting on tips for leaders meeting with Trump on his first foreign trip.

Keep it short and give him a win.
