Summary
“We’re seeing the rebirth of package holidays.” That’s the message from Steve Heapy, chief executive of Jet2 and Jet2 Holidays. He’s just announced a very significant expansion for the company: opening a base at Liverpool John Lennon airport from spring 2024 with a big network of holiday flights
Jet2 Holidays has taken over as the biggest tour operator in the UK from TUI – which is itself growing strongly next summer. Great news for holidaymakers.
But is it a wise move for the company?

| 0:53.6 | from our independent travel agent partners in the |
| 0:56.7 | catchment area that want to provide people with one of our flight or holiday products. |
| 1:02.2 | So we've had this level of demand for a long time and now we feel the time is right to serve |
| 1:07.9 | that demand. |
| 1:08.3 | But you will know far better than me how Tui plans to expand |
| 1:13.6 | in 2024. I imagine that EasyJet holidays might have some sort of competitive response. And so what would |
| 1:22.0 | you say someone, and I know that you're a young man, Steve, but what would you say someone old like me who |
| 1:27.2 | says, oh, this reminds me you say someone old like me who says, |
| 1:27.8 | oh, this reminds me of the 1990s with the ridiculous market share battles between |
| 1:34.7 | Airtors and Thompson and First Choice and Thomas Cook. |
| 1:39.0 | It would be a valid comment, but in those periods you had the rise of self-packaging, etc. |
| 1:47.2 | And that seems to be reducing at the moment. |
