and we're gonna continue our ongoing Bible study

on the Gospel of Matthew.

Last time we left off, really in the midst

of the passion of our Lord Jesus Christ,

in the midst of chapter 27.

And so we're gonna pick up here in verse 32. And you want to take us from these next steps?

Yeah. So as they went out, they found a man, a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. They compelled this

man to carry his cross. Now, why are they asking somebody else to carry Jesus' cross? Again,

the scourging, the torture that Jesus would have endured would have been so brutal that

it would not have been possible for him to do this all by himself. And so the fact that they

asked someone else to carry his cross shows you how much suffering

Jesus has already undergone here.

And you can think about that just whenever you've done the stations of the cross.

And you get to that fifth station, which is Simon of Sireen, helps Jesus carry the cross.

And Jesus has already fallen in the stations once before this,

and utter exhaustion.

And so it really does paint how deeply he has suffered.
