This week, Matthew 14, Mark 6, and John 5 through 6.

So, to begin, let's set the stage for this particular chapter 14 with, there are three

parts here. You get the beheading of John the Baptist at the hand of Herod, you get the feeding of the 5,000, and you get the

walking on water. That middle element, the feeding of the 5,000, happens to be one of only a very

small handful of events in the first roughly 33 years of his life. This is before the week of his atoning

sacrifice. So everything from birth up through two and a half years, maybe almost three years

of his ministry, there's only a small handful of stories that are included in Matthew, Mark,

Luke, and John. And the

Feeding of the 5,000 is probably next to the baptism of Christ. Those two events are included

in all four. And there are a small handful of other minor things that are included in John

as well as the synoptics. But that tells

us that this particular event, the Feeding of the 5000, it's a defining moment in Jesus'

ministry. It got everybody's attention.

It's almost like if you could just map those overlaps of the four Gospels about the life

of Jesus, it's baptism, feeding the

5,000, death and resurrection. That's pretty significant, like, major plot points in his life.
