Hey, my friends. I'm Matt. This is the 10-minute Bible Hour podcast, and we're going to talk

0:10.6

about a topic today that has all the potential in the world to be offensive because we're

0:16.0

going to talk about offendedness. And as you know, if you've hung out with me for any

0:20.5

period of time, I am of the deep conviction that offendedness is the laziest and least

0:26.4

useful of all of the human emotions. Not much gets done there that is particularly

0:32.1

productive. So as always, I got to turn over my cards because you've got to take those

0:38.2

things into account because I didn't write the Bible and I don't own it and I could be

0:41.6

wrong about a couple things or a few things or all the things. And I wouldn't know because

0:48.0

I would think I was right. And then I would charge ahead and be like, I think this is the

0:51.9

best read on it. And I would just keep saying stuff like that, but I could be wrong.

0:56.1

So with that in mind, we get to this passage in Matthew chapter 15 about offendedness

1:01.6

1:05.8

text isn't particularly flattering to the idea of offendedness. But it gets us into

1:11.3

some interesting thoughts about the human phenomenon, human emotions, and how that overlaps

1:15.8

with the Bible and what Jesus is doing here. As long as you read the thing, Matthew chapter

1:19.5

15, starting in verse 12, the Pharisees have come up from Jerusalem. They're mad about

1:24.3

not hand-washing properly. Jesus fiercely, verbally retaliates in a way that embarrasses

1:30.1

the Pharisees in front of everybody and equates them with God's chosen people who are absolutely

1:35.3

rebuked in Isaiah. What was it? 27. It was 27, 29. I'm looking, it was 29. My bad, Isaiah 29

1:43.9

in the Old Testament. Then Jesus turns to the crowds as we talked about yesterday and

1:47.6

was like, hey, we got to rethink the whole clean, unclean thing. It's not about what

1:51.0

goes into you that makes you unclean. It's about what is in you and what comes out of
