When somebody accuses us of doing something wrong that we didn't actually do. I think intuitively, instinctively,

0:14.8

we've all got this batch of four or five defense techniques that we just have on

0:19.9

speed dial and we run through them really quickly, especially if we're hyper sure that we didn't do anything

0:25.6

wrong. And one of those is probably the alibi things, so let's say you're getting accused of stealing cookies, You ate all the cookies out of the

0:34.8

cookie jar and you weren't supposed to. That seemed innocuous. I went through like

0:37.6

four or five things in my brain that were actually like really bad crimes and I

0:41.0

think would make it far less fun for us to game it out.

0:42.7

So we're going to go with something easy, stealing cookies, you get accused of it.

0:46.0

Well, speed dial defense number one would probably be alibi.

0:50.5

I wasn't even here when the cookies got stolen.

0:53.0

It's just simple logic, right?

0:55.0

Speed dial defense number two might be to offer a more plausible theory.

1:00.0

Well, there are a whole bunch of crumbs all around Kyle's seat right there and he has chocolate chip

1:05.0

smudges on his shirt and his lips. Maybe it was Kyle. A third defense that I think we keep on

1:10.2

speed dial is the appeal to our track record. If you don't steal things from people,

1:15.4

you might just be like, I don't steal things. You all know me. I don't take people's stuff without

1:19.1

permission. I did not steal the cookies. But there's a fourth one that I think we all have on speed dial as well and

1:24.1

this is a little more complex technique but it's very effective. This is the one where we

1:28.7

point out the flaws in our accusers assumption of our motives.

1:34.0

Are you tracking with me there?

1:35.6

So in this case, let's say that you are Celiac

1:39.2

and you just got accused of stealing a bunch of chips- hoi cookies and eating them all.
