Do you remember that one part in Lord of the Rings I think is the first one where

Bilboo has the ring and Gandolf is starting to be, I think maybe you've had that thing a little too long,

how about you hand over the weird ring?

And then Bilboo gets all defensive and he's like, yeah, it's my ring, I want the ring.

I'm not quoting this exactly.

The writing was a touch better.

And then Gandolf gets all fiery and angry and real big.

He's like, I'm not trying to rob you.

I'm trying to help you and his eyebrows go up in the middle so you know he's friendly again.

I all in that one moment you've got like the terror of the power that is

hidden there within this gentle Gandolf character and then right back to the gentleness and you really really believe him that he has

Bilbo's best interests at heart but you know Bilbo's a little hobby he doesn't know what he's

doing his view of things is very small and Gandalf is very ancient and he

understands things about the world and beyond the world that Bilboo couldn't

possibly understand and so he explains this thing and then finally Bilboe

unloads the ring and he feels better about things and that's

kind of the situation that we run into in the passage that Jesus is

hearkening back toward in Matthew chapter four when he's having this showdown with the devil and we've been on this forever

So you probably know what we're talking about but I'm still gonna hit it again anyway

The first temptation is the one about being real hungry and the devil says, hey, if you're the son of God, tell these stones to become bread, and then Jesus says,

it is written man doesn't live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God comes from early in the book of

Deuteronomy and that was like I let's try something else and say time warp or
