I enlisted after 9-11.

My family comes from a long line of people who signed up to fight when this country needs them.

Grandpa joined the Navy right after Pearl Harbor, for example.

So 9-11 for me was like our generation's Pearl Harbor.

I signed up to serve in the military, ended up getting recruited in the CIA, did a tour

to overseas in Afghanistan, and yeah, I've been intimately involved in

helping the Afghans get out of Afghanistan now for the better part of a decade

because the only reason I'm sitting here talking to you is because my Afghan interpreter

saved my life in a battle 13 years ago when he shot and killed two Taliban who were about to kill me.
