So we talked a lot about Kirk Cousins last segment.

He's the guy who signed with the Falcons two years ago, 100 million guaranteed.

He's the guy he's going to be there for multiple years.

And then boom, the draft Michael Pennix Jr. with the eighth overall pick just six weeks later.

It has created plenty of confusion there now that Cousins is gone. It's Penix recovering

from the torn ACL and to Otong of Iloa, who is on a bargain basement of $1.3 million contract with the dolphins paying the

balance of some $54 million that he's owed this year, fully guaranteed.

And it feels like a truly open competition.

It feels like there is no favorite.

This new organization where they've gutted the front office and the coaching staff has no political reason to justify the faith that they showed in Michael Pennix, Jr.

So here's the new president of football operations, Matt Ryan, who joined the team, rejoined the team after being the third overall pick in 2008,

becoming a franchise quarterback and winning the MVP in 2016.

Here is Matt Ryan talking about the progress that Michael Pennix Jr. is making from the torn ACL he suffered last November.

I think the biggest thing is you just don't know where Michael's

going to be at. You know, he's doing a great job. I mean, he, since I took the job back in January,

at the beginning of January, I mean, he's been in there doing rehab, working with our rehab guy,

Nick Carapino, who's done a great job with him. I never went through an ACL, you know,

but there's certain milestones that you've got to hit, and the closer you get, the more variability

there is, because the intensity and the speed picks up. But Mike's in a good spot right now.

Mike's in a good spot right now, and, hey, they have the luxury of having Tua there who can handle a lot of the stuff in the off-season program, Shereen.

And, you know, I think the basic reality is the more that Tua works, if Tua works well, and we know that Tua works well under perfect laboratory conditions, it's only when the play that's called goes haywire that things go sideways for Tua.
