Summary

It’s the eve of Masters Eve and Andrew joins Iain in his BBC house, with the alternative being a three-hour journey to Andrew’s Airbnb. The two contemplate Rory McIlroy’s attempts to do very little talking in the build-up and a press conference which might as well have had the clock from Countdown going off on the ten minute mark. They consider the offerings from the other major contenders while Iain then becomes unnecessarily concerned about his pronunciation of the word ‘Masters’. In a thrilling denouement to the episode Andrew talks about how he wants to record some local birdsong and then doesn’t actually do it.

Folding Pocket

0:03.0

It's time now for the chipping forecast, issued by Folding Pocket on behalf of Andrew Cotter, Eddie Pepperall and special guest Ian Carter.

0:31.3

Hello there, hello, hello and welcome.

0:34.5

I've become Eddie's stumpsiness down far, haven't I?

0:36.2

Hello, hello, hello.

0:38.8

Hello and welcome to Augusta. I can say that,

0:44.1

because we're in Augusta, Ian Carter. Yes, you've joined me. How was your journey? Journey was fine.

0:52.7

Fine. Got a bit rowdy on the plane. Well, I'd say a few people, I think. You'd have been Air Masters,

0:57.1

presumably, and the plane would be absolutely full of people wearing.

1:02.9

I was going to say Pringle, to go back in the day, but they'll all have been wearing their golf gear.

1:09.2

No, they weren't, but you could tell who's going to the Masters and I chatted to a few people who are very nice people.

2:17.7

A couple of people said, you're doing a podcast out there. A couple of people said, where are the dogs? And so... But you get asked that all the time, don't you? It must be very grating when you get asked on a plane, where are your dogs? Well, it would be strange if they were there. What do you think I'm going to snap and say? Where do you think they are? They're going to be with me. Yeah, they're in my carry-on luggage. What are you talking about, man? But it's the one, because I get this every time I'm at the golf club and I'm not obviously travelled to a golf tournament and they'll say, oh, Ian, not in Mexico this week. No, I'm not. I'm here. I'm playing golf. Oh, we're just too short-tempered people. We're not. We're enjoying ourselves here. Yeah, there was a lot. I think, I don't know, I know they serve drink on planes to sort of, they want passengers to fall asleep, don't they, basically? They do. That's what they want. But I think there's a fine line between, because some of the passengers might fall asleep. Because people ask for alcohol on planes. That's what they do. They seem to drink more on planes that they do. It's the worst thing you can do as well. Worst thing you do. I was just rehydrating with water and little hydrating tablets sensibly. You need to have those hydrating tablets when you land. Do you do that? Yeah. I felt, I felt good at the end of this one. Anyway, but, uh, yeah, there was some row. And let's just put it into context. And I promise you, we're going to get right stuck into the masters very, very shortly. But I need to tell you Andrew is sitting there in his running shirt, his running shorts. He's even got the hamstring protector under under. Yeah, they were a bit warm for this weather, to be honest, the ones I'm going to do. So you've been out being athletic and all sorts? I have. It's just, yeah, it's what I do. That forehead's still glistening.

2:51.0

That guy goes purple. This is a vein. Start strobing there. So, no, there's a, there's a brilliant place.

2:56.5

And I found it after about 10 years of coming to the Masters.

2:49.6

I found a thing that a path that goes down right by the Savannah River.

2:53.8

It's about half a mile from here.

2:56.2

So you can go and do that. It's fantastic.

2:59.2

But the last time I was here, I tore my meniscus. So, so, yeah, but I've recovered because I'm just, you know, made of strong stuff. Mentally, mentally tough. That's what I am. And physically. And physically tough as well. So we are sitting in your residence for the week. We're on Pebble Beach Drive.

3:00.5

So this And physically. And physically tough as well. So we are sitting in your residence for the week.

3:25.4

We're on Pebble Beach Drive.

3:27.6

So I mentioned this in one of the warm, our big preview pod in that there's a big sort of housing estate is a, it's very nice.

3:36.7

It's called Westlake. And all the streets, all the roads around here are named after golf courses.
