Here in the United States, July 4th is celebrated as our Independence Day, and I am immensely

grateful for this land of milk and honey. At the same time, I see myself part of a larger group than

only Americans. I see myself as a member of the human race, an earthling of this earth.

We're all in this together, like it or not.

And sometimes it takes a threat outside of ourselves to unite us.

That is why I love this excellent speech given in the movie Independence Day.

So in honor of this day, our Independence Day, let me play the rally cry given from President Thomas J. Whitmore

to the United States fighter pilots before they went off to save the human race.

Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world.

And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind.

Mankind, that word should have new meaning for all of us today.

We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore.

We will be united in our common interest.

Perhaps it's faith that today is the Fourth of July,

and you will once again be fighting for our freedom.

Not from tyranny, oppression or persecution, but from annihilation.

We're fighting for our right to live, to exist.

And should we win the day?

The Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday.
