On today's show, the Dallas Mavericks lose the tiebreaker in the NBA draft lottery, and there are options that are completely off the table for them now. And we'll talk about what the situation is, what the tiebreaker means, what the lottery odds are, all that. We'll also talk about the strange consequences that befall this now for the Mavericks. But let's start here. The Mavs lose the tiebreaker with the Pelicans in the NBA draft lottery odds, which I will call them the Hawks for the rest of this episode

because the Hawks have that pick.

The Hawks own that pick. And so the Pelicans will not be picking there. Obviously, that pick was talked about and bellyed about a ton. But the Dallas Mavericks lose the tiebreaker. And let's just, I have to give a real quick, this is what this means. What does the lottery odds mean? What does the tiebreaker mean? All that because there's a lot of confusion and a lot of people saying a lot of really strong opinions. They don't have the information backing up. So the NBA lottery that we've talked about for months, all the random games, the Mavs have won that we've been frustrated about different things like that we've

talked a lot about the NBA draft lottery it works like this they have all these ping pong balls

in a bucket or whatever and you get certain number of combinations of those ping pong balls that land

are yours so the mavericks have a certain amount of ping pong balls i think it's like 68 different combinations they could potentially get to get the number one pick.

That's why they're at like 6.8 or whatever to get the number one pick.

So they have that many combinations.

And then they go, they draft, they select pick one.

They select pick two.

They select pick three.

They select pick four. With those lottery balls, the ping bomb balls on that stuff, they select pick two, they select pick three, they select pick four. With those lottery

balls, the ping pong balls on that stuff, they select, they select those, they draw those.

Everybody else falls into order after that. So that's why you're going to have teams like

the Mavericks last year jump all the way from, from what, you know, 10th where they were in

the lottery or wherever with 1.8%

chance to get number one, jump all the way up to the top.

That can happen.

The Spurs did the same thing.

And if that happens, then teams like the Jazz and the Wizards who were in the top five in the lottery can fall down a couple spots because teams jumped them.
